Multi-Generational Homes are on the rise.

We live in times we never anticipated. And, for many of us, the experience has not pleasant.

Being on the receiving side or the delivery side of not so good news isn’t fun for anyone. But, learning the truth may be of great help and safety to you and your family, while still being a surprise you.

We were called to a jobsite we had previously quoted on for replacing windows and sliding glass doors with Impact Resistant (IR) product.

The couple was distraught, and rightly so.

Many Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the next huge generational waive, Millennials, will be in the marketplace to purchase, sell, build, or remodel their homes, and each have different wants, needs, likes, and dislikes. In the final summation, budget, cost, end-result, and time all become part of the formula for the level of happiness.

The National Association of Realtors 2019 Remodeling Impact Report analyzed the $400 Billion Americans spend annually on remodeling projects. (1)

Lest we not lose sight of the fact that construction- new, old, or re-modeled- is not perfect. It is performed by humans, and they are not perfect. But, the level and quality of supervision, inspection, and professionalism that accompanies every job, has great effect on the result. Quality control reduces call-backs to normal circumstances rather than due to poor workmanship or improper installation.

Every industry has its sale points and reasons, whether it’s overstocked inventory on hand, a commitment to take on more inventory above existing levels, last year’s models or style close-outs, to fill empty seats during historically slow periods, or to just generate cash flow during slow periods- “to make payroll or keep the lights on.”

Construction, be it new construction or remodeling, remediation, or renovation, is a service industry. It’s all about teams, clients, and quality. About the ability to adapt to unique and unusual conditions, some of which may be a result of a catastrophic event. As such, the three “wants”- Fast Delivery; Cheap Price; and Good Service and Quality, only come in a pick two menu.

Summertime in South Florida means rainy season has begun. It also means it’s time to make sure your home doesn’t have any window, door or roof leaks.

If the only time you think about your HVAC (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning) system is when it stops working, perhaps it is time to reconsider this plan. As a major component of your home’s HVAC  system- the “lungs of the building.”

The exterior surfaces of your home or building – the windows, doors, wall assemblies, skylights and roof – are the building envelope and is the most important protection as it relates to water and air intrusion (leaks). The building envelope is designed to separate the indoor environment from the exterior environment, and keep the moisture and unconditioned air outside.
